KEYNOTE SPEAKERS
Henry Louie - IEEE (PES) Dr. Henry Louie received the B.S.E.E. degree from Kettering University in 2002, the M.S. degree from the University of Illinois in 2004, and a Ph.D.  in Electrical Engineering from the University of Washington in 2008.  He is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Seattle University in the United States, where he received the Outstanding Teacher award in 2012.  His past industry experience includes working with Emerson Process Management, Power Engineers and 3TIER Environmental Forecast Group. Dr. Louie has been the Vice President for Membership & Image of the IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) since 2011, and is the youngest person ever to serve on the PES Executive Committee.  His current and past positions include: Governing Board Member-At-Large, member of the IEEE Smart Grid Steering Committee, Long-Range Planning Committee, liaison to the IEEE Industry Applications Society and the IEEE PES Scholarship Plus Committee.  He is a Senior Member of the IEEE. Dr. Louie has served as Technical Program Co-Chair of the 2012 IEEE Global Humanitarian Technology Conference and as Secretary of the IEEE PES Working Group on Sustainable Energy Systems for Developing Communities.  His research includes renewable energy modeling, electric vehicle infrastructure impact analysis and humanitarian engineering. John Sinclair - IET (UK) John Sinclair is Group Director of Operations at EA Technology Limited; before this John was MD of EA Technology Consulting Limited.  John has lead a number of prestige projects for electricity network operators and private companies, in the areas of:  Network performance, Network design, Smart Grids, Distributed generation, Power quality and Network losses.    Previously with Balfour Beatty Power Networks, John was a Project Director, his work involved developing new business opportunities in the area of substation construction and commissioning, in the UK and Canada.  John was the Operations and Systems Mangager at the ENA, where his work included setting up the Operations and Systems Group (OSG) and Distributed Generation Support Group (DGSG); these two groups helped to bring a national focus to delivering improvements in system operation and the connection of DG.   During his 20 years with Southern Electric (now part of the Scottish & Southern Energy Group) John worked in all engineering departments within SE, including operational duties as a field engineer and then a control engineer. Mike Underhill - CEO, EECA Mike Underhill's entire career has been in the energy sector, primarily in New Zealand. For the past 20 years he has been chief executive of a number of electricity and gas companies. Mike joined the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority as Chief Executive in May 2007. Mike has been heavily involved in the deregulation of the electricity and gas industries since 1987, and this has included the development of a competitive wholesale and retail electricity market, and the separation of the networks from the energy market. He has a Bachelor degree in engineering, a Masters degree in economics, has completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard, and is a Fellow of the Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand (IPENZ). Vince Hawksworth - CEO, TrustPower Ltd Vince Hawksworth, Chief Executive, TrustPower joined the Company on 3rd May 2010. Vince is a qualified mining engineer with an MBA from the University of Waikato. Prior to joining TrustPower, Vince was Chief Executive Officer at Hydro Tasmania, Australia's largest renewable energy generator for four years. Vince was born in the UK and spent 14 years in the underground coal mining industry before moving to New Zealand in 1993. Vince was previously General Manager Generation and General Manager Retail for Genesis Energy. Phil Southwell - CIGRE and Western Power (Australia) Since 2006, Phil has been a General Manager at Western Power, a State Government owned corporation that builds, maintains and operates the electricity network in the south west corner of Western Australia. At present Phil is responsible for Western Power's revenue determination, network pricing, sustainability strategy and smart grid development. In August 2008 Phil took over as Chair of the CIGRE International Committee C1. With over 60 members from across the world, this committee researches world development in power system planning, asset management and economics. Phil has over 35 years experience in the electricity industry, particularly in relation to power system development and regulation. In 2012, he was appointed as a fellow of the Institute of Engineers Australia. Phil is also a member of WA Market Advisory Committee, board member of the Australian Power Institute and a Member of the University of Western Australia, and Curtin Industry Advisory Councils. Phil has a Bachelor of Engineering, a Graduate Diploma in Management and an Australian Institute of Company Directors Diploma. Grant Gillard - CEO, ABB Ltd Grant Gillard is the Managing Director of ABB Limited New Zealand. In his role he has hands on responsibility for ABB New Zealand's operations. ABB currently employ over 700 people in New Zealand. Grant holds a Master of Engineering degree from the University of Auckland and has had professional engineering and management experience in a number of diverse technologies and industries.
