QUT Introduction to Substation Design Course
Dates: Monday, 17 June to Wednesday, 19 June 2013
Course Synopsis: This Course covers the major decisions required in the design of a high voltage substation, focusing on those
substations which use conventional outdoor equipment. Many of the same principles apply to the emerging use of various forms of
gas-insulated and modular switchgear - especially in developing economic layouts and taking advantage of the facilities now available
in secondary systems. The emphasis in this module however will be on developing economic network substations using separate
switchgear, current transformers, voltage transformers and busbars in outdoor configurations.
Course Registration fees: EEA Individual or Corporate Member Staff $2150.00 + GST, Non-member $2450.00 + GST.
ICAM Lead Investigator Training Course
Dates: Monday 17 June to Tuesday, 18 June 2013
Course Synopsis: The Incident Cause Analysis Method (ICAM) course is presented by Safety Wise Solutions who are the license
holder for the ICAM training in Australasia. The company principal developed ICAM at BHP Billiton based on Professor James
Reason research into human factors safety.
Course Registration fees: EEA Individual or Corporate Member Staff $1650.00 + GST, Non-member $1790.00 + GST

Workshop Synopsis: One of the key standing committees within the EEA is the Asset Management Group (AMG). The role of the
AMG is to work with the electricity supply industry to facilitate, coordinate and lead the enhancement of asset management planning,
practices, knowledge and performance through self-regulation, recognised systems and sound engineering practice principles. A key
objective of the AMG is to provide a working level forum delivering practical advice and guidance to improve industry understanding,
support decision making, planning and the management of issues around asset management.
Included in the Asset Managers Workshop will be discussions on AMMAT, security of supply, asset health indicators, technician
training and development, and equipment defect reporting.
Workshop Registration Fee: EEA Individual or Corporate Member Staff $480.00 + GST, Non-member $580.00 + GST
ICAM Lead Investigator Tutorial - for Certified Lead Investigators
Date: Wednesday, 19 June 2013
Tutorial Synopsis: The EEA is promoting improved quality of incident and near miss cause analysis in the electricity supply
industry. Objective, in-depth analysis and understanding of primary and also significant underlying causes can pay significant
dividends in preventing future incidents. Effective analysis brings significant people and business benefits and aligns with the industry
Safety Strategy to 2020 aims to improve industry safety performance. The ICAM methodology based on Professor James Reason
research affords a widely accepted common methodology and language around cause analysis.
The EEA is making available a half-day tutorial that is open to all persons certificated as having attended an ICAM course by an
ICAM-licensed training provider. The half-day tutorial costs $150.00 to attend. The Safety Wise Solutions tutor, a licensed ICAM
trainer, will provide a brief revision and overview of the ICAM analysis model, and then lead a participative class practice applying
ICAM analysis to actual industry incidents.
The EEA recommends that all persons having attended an acknowledged ICAM training should register for this tutorial as a valuable
practice session to help maintain ICAM application knowledge and skills.’
Tutorial Registration Fee: $150.00 + GST per participant
