ISSHA Travel Awards to attend the 16th International Conference on Harmful Algae
ISSHA will offer a limited number of travel awards for students and postdoctoral investigators to attend the 16th International Conference on Harmful Algae, 27-31 October 2014, in Wellington, New Zealand.

Awards will be limited to a maximum of $1,000 US. Successful applicants will need to demonstrate that other sources of funds are available to supplement their award.

Criteria for selection and information to be included in the application letter can be found on the ISSHA website.

To apply for funds, please send the application letter, as a PDF File, to Dr Anke Kremp, Chair of the Committee on Travel Awards ([email protected]) following the instructions available on  the ISSHA website. Please write “ISSHA Travel Awards 2014” in the message subject. Applications not submitted this way may be rejected.  Applications not submitted in this way may be rejected.

The deadline for receipt of applications is June 15, 2014, with decisions announced approximately one month thereafter (depending on confirmation of available funds from different sponsors).

Funding:
The SCOR Committee on Capacity Building has approved some funding to support the travel expenses of early-career scientists from developing countries (see http://scor-int.org/Eligible_Countries-28March2014.pdf) to attend ICHA-2014.  The proposed recipients will need to have an accepted oral or poster presentation at the conference.  To apply please contact Anke Kremp, chair of the Chair of the ISSHA  Travel Award Committee [email protected].  The deadline for applications is 15th July.

Nominations for the 2014 Yasumoto Lifetime achievement Award and the Patrick Gentien Young Scientist Award
ISSHA members are invited to submit nominations for the Yasumoto Lifetime Achievement Award and the Patrick Gentien Young Scientist Award. Further information on the appropriate profile of the nominees can be found at www.issha.org (click on “Awards”).

Any ISSHA member in good standing may submit nominations for either achievement award, which should include a description of the nominee’s contribution (not more than one page). Please, make sure that you and your nominee have renewed your membership for the period 2014-2015.

Nominations should be sent by e-mail to Prof Marta Estrada ([email protected]), Chair of the Committee on Achievement Awards, deadline: May 15, 2014.  Please write “ISSHA Achievement Awards 2014” in the message subject. Nominations will be considered by the ISSHA Council, and eventual awards will be presented during the closing ceremony at the 16th ICHA Conference in Wellington, New Zealand, 27-31 October 2014.

ISSHA STUDENT PRESENTATIONS AWARD

The Maureen Keller Student Award
Students are the future of the Society, and ISSHA wish to promote their contributions during the ICHA.

The name of this award was given to honor Dr Maureen Keller (1954-1999), from the Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences (USA), for her contribution to the ecology and physiology of harmful algal species and her dedication to laboratory cultures during her short career.

The Maureen Keller Award is given to outstanding graduate student oral and poster communications at the ICHA. Conference participants are chosen in advance to review students’ presentations. The evaluations are processed by the ISSHA Awards Committee and awardees are announced at the the closing ceremony at the 16th ICHA Conference in Wellington, New Zealand, 27-31 October 2014.

ISSHA AUCTION

Donations for the ISSHA Auction 2014

ISSHA auctions during past International Conferences on Harmful Algae have been a tremendous success and are becoming a tradition!! It is an opportunity for the conference participants to bid on donated items. The range of items is broad and may include books, signed reprints, photos, jewellery, T-shirts, paintings, algae-related items, liquor, and scientific equipment. The auction items are donated by ISSHA members from around the world. Funds collected during the auction are an important income for ISSHA. ISSHA was able to offer partial travel support to more than 43 students to attend the Conference in Changwon (29 October-2 November 2012).

Please contact the responsible person for the auction, Dr Ester Garcés ([email protected]) about your donations for the auction and the way you are going to transport it. Please, write “ISSHA Auction 2014” in the message subject. You may also include a picture of your item.
