Welcome
On behalf of NMIT, and all New Zealand PIN member ITPs,
I would like to invite you to the 2012 PIN Conference in
Nelson.
The effects of the global financial crisis and constant
technological development are just two elements of a
changing world that are massively impacting on tertiary
education. To hide from the change that needs to occur is
not the PIN membership way – to be at the forefront of
developing and delivering ideas and solutions for a ‘future
state’ tertiary sector is our commitment. The 2012
conference theme of ‘Facing the Future’ will provide the
opportunity for us to visit and challenge the future and, as a
result, take away ‘gold nuggets’ that will inspire and provide
opportunities for the future of tertiary education. You can
look forward to an informative and highly enjoyable conference in one of New Zealand’s
most beautiful regions. Nelson is a great place to relax: artists, markets, beaches,
mountains, national parks, and more sunshine hours than anywhere else in New
Zealand.
We hope that you can join us.

The Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology (NMIT) operates predominantly from
campuses in Nelson, Richmond and Blenheim and from the RNZAF Base
Woodbourne site in Marlborough, covering three main geographical areas: Nelson
Bays, Tasman, and Marlborough which stretches from the Marlborough Sounds in the
north to the Kaikoura district in the south. Each of these areas has distinct
demographic and socio-economic features which impact on the regional labour
market. The region has the nation’s largest concentration of fisheries, aquaculture, and wine industries. It also has
substantial forestry, horticulture, aviation (both at Woodbourne and Nelson), and tourism industries, a thriving arts
community, and large conservation estates including three national parks.
