EVENT DIARY
NZIP & PHYSIKOS 2021 Conference
12 – 14 July 2021, Wellington
We are delighted to invite you to Wellington for the 18th Conference of the New Zealand Institute of Physics, incorporating Physikos, the New Zealand Physics Teachers Conference from 12 – 14 July 2021. Our venue will be Queen Margaret College, which is conveniently located close to the central train and bus stations and easily accessed via the urban Motorway.
Recent times have seen our colleagues take centre stage to support evidence-based decision making by our government, and to raise understanding for the public. Changes to how we teach and educate, from long-term trends to other more sudden shifts mean that it’s all the more important we get together to learn from each other and to stay informed. As much as ever, a strong community of physics professionals, educators and communicators is proving to be critical for New Zealand. Our conference aims to support and celebrate the breadth of our activity while giving us a view of where and how our field is preparing for the future.
We will have an exciting line-up of speakers, with a diverse range of topics and expertise from throughout New Zealand. We will have experts in education and research, covering nanotechnology, quantum optics, space physics, astrophysics, climate physics, medical imaging technology and materials. There will be two public speakers and a conference dinner – with some dancing!
We hope to be welcoming you in person to Wellington so you can stay on and explore everything the region has to offer. You may even be lucky and get some of our “unbeatable” good days. Whether we meet in real life or have to change our format to accommodate the uncertainty of our times, I look forward to meeting together so we can learn from each other and prepare to face the next challenges and to strengthen our community.
