Welcome to NZSEE 2016

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

We invite you to join us in Christchurch for the 2016 New Zealand Society for Earthquake Engineering (NZSEE) Annual Technical Conference.

The effects of a severe earthquake on people, communities, buildings and infrastructure, and our economy have become dramatically clear to many New Zealanders since the M7.2 Darfield earthquake of September 2010 and the subsequent Canterbury earthquake sequence that included the devastating Christchurch earthquake of February 2011.  For more than a century, New Zealand earthquake engineering has promoted advanced earthquake knowledge, pioneering technologies and new design philosophies. NZSEE and its members, then and now, have inspired new dimensions in earthquake science, design and engineering, and disaster planning, through vital collaboration across disciplines. In this year’s conference, 5 years on, we look to foster the development and application of past knowledge, recent lessons, and future research to reducing risk and raising resilience for the benefit of our communities.

The conference will take place from 1 – 3 April 2016, preceded by workshops on 31 March. The venue is the Wigram Airforce Museum conference centre, with transport provided to inner city accommodation where the earthquake rebuild of the CBD is well underway. Optional project tours will be available.

As the conference date draws closer, details of the keynote speakers, the conference program and other conference activities will be added to the conference website.

So please plan your visit to Christchurch to attend this conference, to meet with your peers and discuss earthquake engineering challenges and opportunities.
