Strengthening Biculturalism in Montessori

Ko Ngāti Rangatua tōku Hapū

Ko Eve Scott tōku ingoa

Eve completed her Montessori training in 1992 through the London Montessori Centre while on her OE. She established The Tree House Bilingual Montessori Preschool in Whakatane, which has now been operating for six years.

Thinking the biggest hurdle was opening, she found instead that establishing a strong bilingual and bicultural component has been her biggest challenge. Learning Te Reo Māori and through lots of trial and error, she has steadily gained a depth of understanding of how this looks within a Montessori environment.

Eve will be continuing from her very popular workshop on Strengthening Biculturalism in Montessori from MANZ Conference 2017.

    "Krista

Krista Kerr

3-6 Assistants

Krista will be running two workshops for Assistants on the second day of conference. These are based on following the child’s interest, especially when it comes to Grace and Courtesy groups. She will discuss how this can only be done if we use observation as an integral part of our teaching.

Observation has become a large part of Krista’s life as a Montessori Educator. After obtaining her Post Graduate Diploma in Teaching ECE, from Victoria University in 2008 and working as an Assistant Teacher, she then moved with her family to London to do the AMI 3-6 Diploma at the Maria Montessori Institute. Krista was very fortunate to be able to follow this up with a one year Post Diploma Observation Course.

Since arriving back in New Zealand and taking up a Head Teacher position at Wā Ora Montessori Krista has run workshops on observation, focusing on how the use of work curves can help you to know each child on a much deeper level. This allows you to give them presentations that really follow their interests and extend tamariki learning. Knowing when and what groups to invite tamariki to also helps in their settling in and the normalising process.

Krista has two sons, both of whom attend Wā Ora Montessori School. She is enjoying following them through their Montessori journey, from the playgroup, pre-school and now in the primary and high school.
