The Organising Committee of the ISC 2026 is now calling for Session Proposals before the closing date of 22 November 2024. Preliminary acceptance will be communicated by 18 December 2024. A member of the Scientific Committee of ISC 2026 will contact you before that date, should similar sessions be proposed.

Conference Theme

The over-riding theme of the conference theme is “Sedimentation on active plate margins through time and space”.

You can submit your session into a broad suite of symposia sub-themes covering modern to ancient sedimentary systems. These include but are not limited to:

  • Tectonic geomorphology and sedimentation
  • Volcano-sedimentary processes and deposits
  • Non-tropical carbonate deposition and diagenesis
  • Seismic and volcanic influences on lacustrine sedimentation
  • Seismicity and the relationship to submarine landslides/ turbidites/ mass transport deposits (MTDs) – modern and ancient
  • Interaction of tectonic and eustatic processes in the sedimentary record
  • Glacio-fluvial sedimentation
  • Māori and Pasifica (Polynesian cultures of the SW Pacific) view of sediments and sedimentary process.
  • Downslope and along slope deep marine processes
  • Tropical carbonate deposition and diagenesis
  • Modern sedimentary processes and deposits: analogues for the rock record
  • Sediments, plants, and animals: fossils, trace fossils, paleoecology, and evolution
  • Sustainable sedimentary resources: aggregates, critical minerals, and the energy transition
  • Sedimentology and society: Societal impacts on sedimentary systems, shallow marine processes and hazards, sea level change
  • Other sub-themes are also being considered.

Session Proposal Format
Each proposal must include:

  • Title of the session
  • Session lead convenor and co-convenors (names and affiliations)
  • Description of aim and content of the session (max half page)
    Links to the themes for the Scientific Programme
  • Intended format for the session (e.g., poster only, oral + poster presentations)
