Sustainability
Towards a sustainable city
New Zealanders value our natural environment, so it makes sense that Christchurch city is making moves to become the most sustainable place possible - especially in our events and conferencing sector.
As a city, Christchurch is aligned to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and has a goal of net zero emissions by 2045. The city is walkable making for a smaller delegate carbon footprint, and transport options include electric car shares, e-scooters and bikes, and electric public buses to and from the airport.
Christchurch Airport was the first in the world to be awarded Level 4 Airport Carbon Accreditation - the highest possible rating, they've decreased emissions by 90 percent
since 2015, and they're building a 400-hectare solar energy park. They intend to be climate positive within the decade - there aren't many airports doing as much as they are in this space.
Keep a clear mind and a clearer conscience when conferencing in Christchurch.
We have a range of excellent options to include corporate social responsibility and team building into your conference. These include native tree planting, wildlife conservation, wetland restoration, equipment building for low decile schools, a variety of financial sponsorship options, and more.
