Profile
for Tom Neser. Psychologist.
Tom is an experienced presenter and
trainer with particular interests in adapting biofeedback use to mood
management and treatment of trauma. In this process he has worked in
both biofeedback and related areas of psychophysiology for some 20
years as a clinical psychologist. His presentation style tends to
include humour and he is very practical in his approach.
Some basic introductory level equipment would be available for
participants to purchase at reduced price only during the conference.

A Practical introduction to the use of Heart Rate Variability based
biofeedback which would focus on:

Assessing for stress and encouraging relaxation using the Emwave PC
- Communicating relevant issues regarding
mind-body interaction to clients
- Developing an understanding of resonant
frequency and it's relationship to Heart Rate Variability
Using
biofeedback to:
-
Treat emotional trauma, depression and related issues (utilising recent
work by Constance Dallenberg in the USA)
- Increase emotional resiliency, resolve
conflict and increase stress resilience
- Improve client's capacity to foster positive
mood and experience and to utilise this as an effective treatment
modality
- Increase the clinician's ability to stay present and foster
mindfulness as a therapeutic aid.
This
workshop will be intensely practical and all levels of users would find
some new information. The workshop will be designed to enable
participants to use basic equipment with confidence with a set range of
treatment protocols.

Introduction to basic sEMG and biofeedback concepts and uses and
potential for sEMG

Very
practical issues:

What to do and what not to do,
- Electrode placement, setting baselines,
- Tips and tricks in using equipment
An
introductory practical:
Either individually with equipment if a very small group or in small
"teams" to practice and refine what has been taught.
Feedback from the practical and dealing with issues, mistakes
and insights. Looking at specific situations where sEMG can
be applied: Pain, stress, posture, muscle rehabilitation Some journal
articles will be provided as part of this in order to provide
background material.
The workshop does not assume any prior knowledge and will be aimed at
beginner to intermediate level. It will aim at equipping participants
to develop some basic skills and be able to leave the workshop with
basic skills to do some elementary protocols in treating pain related
issues.

Further instruction with sEMG placement and looking at specific
