Pre-Conference Site Tours

The EEA is offering the opportunity to attend one of two pre conference site tours located within the Wellington region.  These site visits will be held on Wednesday morning from approximately 9am to 12pm on 21 June 2017.  If you would like to book a place on one of the tours please do so via the conference registration form.  Please note that numbers are limited so it is recommended that you book early to avoid disappointment.  Due to the sensitive nature of intellectual and/or production technology, EEA and the Conference Organiser have the right to refuse individual registrations to the Site Tours if from a competing company.

Meridian West Wind Farm Site Tour

The Site is Meridians largest Wind Farm operation located west of Wellington on Terawhiti Station and Makara Farm. approximately 17 kilometres from central Wellington city and approximately 12 kilometres from the nearest suburb of Karori.

West Wind consists of a Services building ,a separate Substation and switchyard area with 2 Main Transformers ,62 wind turbines generating 142.6 MW. The Site is approximately 55 square kilometres in area and borders Cook strait – with some spectacular views and photo opportunities on a fine day

The visit group  can expect to see the West Wind site in its operation with a drive through the site to the Substation and Blade laydown area - stopping at a couple of photo opportunities along the way

Unfortunately the site can be subject to extreme weather events especially in the Winter months –  if necessary the visit may need to be cancelled or restricted to the Public viewing area on the day

PPE Needs:

  • Warm clothing
  • Sturdy footwear
  • HI Vis vests

Transpower’s Haywards Site Tour

The Haywards electrical substation is one of  Transpower’s largest substations and is a key part of New Zealand’s national electricity network.

PPE Needs:

  • Full body fire resistant overalls
  • Hard hat
  • Safety glasses
  • Safety footwear
  • Natural fibre undergarments
